Hi, I'm Ally —
The Spood Queen

Welcome to Spood Queen — your Central Florida source for hand-raised Regal Jumping Spiders (Phidippus regius). I'm a passionate local breeder based in Ocala, raising every spiderling with individual care, attention, and a whole lot of love. 🌿

These tiny acrobats are more than just pets — they're personality-packed companions who will genuinely look you in the eye, tilt their fuzzy little heads, and absolutely steal your heart. I raise each baby to the i3–i4 instar stage before they're ready to go home, ensuring they're healthy, curious, and thriving.

Surprisingly Smart

They plan, problem-solve, and stalk prey with strategy. Scientists are genuinely amazed at their cognitive abilities for such a tiny brain.

Easy to Keep

A small enclosure, some feeder insects, a light misting of water — that's really it. Low-maintenance, high-reward pet ownership.

💜

Phidippus regius is one of the most handleable spider species. Many owners describe them as "puppy-like" in their curiosity and engagement.

Deep Dive: Jumping Spider Care

Everything a prospective spood parent needs to know — straight from someone who loves these little weirdos.

🏡 Housing

Spiderlings do well in small, well-ventilated enclosures — cross-flow ventilation is important. A small acrylic or glass enclosure with a mesh top works great. As they grow, size up gradually. Avoid anything too large for spiderlings; they can struggle to find food.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

Florida-raised jumpers are naturally adapted to warmth! They thrive at 72–82°F with moderate humidity (50–65%). A light misting on one wall every couple of days provides both humidity and drinking water. Avoid misting the spider directly.

🦗 Feeding

Spiderlings eat micro-prey — start with fruit flies (Drosophila melanogaster). As they grow:

  • i2–i3: Fruit flies
  • i4–i5: Small crickets, mealworms
  • Adult: Crickets, roaches, waxworms

Feed every 2–3 days and remove uneaten prey after 12 hours.

💧 Hydration

Jumping spiders drink water droplets! Lightly mist one wall of the enclosure and they'll drink right off the surface. Juveniles need moisture more frequently than adults. Never let the enclosure become bone dry — but don't flood it either.

🤝 Handling & Taming

Phidippus regius are among the most handleable spiders in the hobby. Start slow — let them walk onto your hand voluntarily. Sit low to the ground at first. Regular, calm handling sessions build trust quickly. They are naturally curious and will investigate YOU just as much as you investigate them.

🔄 Molting

Jumping spiders molt to grow! Signs include: loss of appetite, building a silk "sleeping bag," and lethargy. Do NOT disturb a molting spider. Remove uneaten prey before a molt. After molting, wait 5–7 days before feeding again while their exoskeleton hardens.

🌈 Personality

Every spood has a unique personality — some are bold and leap onto everything, some are shy observers, and some are drama queens who will stare you down like you personally offended them. They form genuine bonds with their owners. Yes, a spider. We know. They just do it.

⏳ Lifespan

Female Phidippus regius typically live 2–3 years, while males live 1–1.5 years. With proper care, humidity, and diet, you can enjoy a long, wonderful relationship with your little jumper. They're not a short-term pet — they're a commitment to something genuinely magical. 🕷️
